The Event Pathways Programme (EPP) 2024 was a milestone iteration of our rangatahi internship in the live events sector. What began a few years ago as the Music in Parks Internship Programme (a small pilot giving youth hands-on experience in event production) has grown into a cornerstone YANZ programme, opening doors for diverse young people, particularly tangata moana.
Building on three successful prior iterations, this year took EPP to new heights in scale and scope. The demand spoke for itself:
- 46 applications for just 10 spots (up from 6 in 2023)
- 90% hands-on learning across a weekend intensive
- Funded by the Pasifika Success team of Auckland Council, with support from The Rock Factory and Gavin Downie
Across the intensive, participants built a stage from the ground up, delivered a mock event, and learned directly from industry professionals, technicians and guest speakers, leaving with real skills, real networks, and a real sense of what a career in events can look like.
