Who we are

A youth-led movement for rangatahi creativity 👋

We're Youth Arts New Zealand (YANZ), Aotearoa's leading youth-led social enterprise, generating equitable opportunities for rangatahi to explore creativity, both as a career and as a means of self-expression.

How we decide

We're empowering youth to build creative futures

All of our mahi sits under one or more of these pou: the lenses we use to decide what we start, sustain, and sunset.

🧰

Equip

Putting tools, resources and methodology into rangatahi hands, so young creatives have what they need to lead.

Activate

Breathing life into the physical and digital spaces, and real, paid opportunities, that rangatahi creatives can own.

📣

Advocate

Shifting the needle at a structural level: championing long-term creative equity for rangatahi across Aotearoa.

The YANZ Way

We're empowering youth to build creative futures through…

🙌

Empowering creative identities

Empowering rangatahi to embrace their identities and tell their stories with dignity, to their community and beyond.

🌱

Championing sustainable careers

Championing sustainable, accessible and equitable entry points into creative careers.

👑

Valuing rangatahi leadership

Advocating for young creatives and diverse youth voice across Aotearoa.

🤝

Building meaningful connections

Connecting young people with each other, and with those who can guide them.

Our vision

An Aotearoa where every young New Zealander knows the worth of their creative identity.

Our team 🫶

The rangatahi team behind the mahi.

Our talented youth-led team lend their creativity to impact the lives of the rangatahi they work with. Normal hours are Tuesday to Thursday (10am – 4pm).

Board of trustees

The board steering the kaupapa.

Our Board supports the development and sustainability of YANZ, with backgrounds spanning governance, strategy, community development and research.

Our 2030 vision

So what's the plan?!

Te Kāhui o Mahutonga, our Southern Cross, sets the course. By 2030, a young creative's success is no longer left to chance: real entry points into the arts, fair pay for their craft, and the networks to build careers that last. We carve those pathways, and equip others to keep them open.
