Earth Beat is a whānau-friendly music and arts festival in the Kaipara region of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland, a weekend of music, sustainability and connection to the whenua.
We worked together to create a dedicated youth arts station at the 2021 event, where three rangatahi creatives spent the weekend making art and poetry to inspire festival-goers. Rather than performing on a stage, they worked in the open, responding to the festival around them and inviting the public to watch creativity unfold in real time.
For young artists, it was a chance to be paid for their craft in a supportive, values-aligned setting; for the festival, it was a fresh injection of youth energy and perspective.
